White Birches is a family-run cottage resort situated minutes from Ontario’s crown jewel, Algonquin Park. Nestled alongside beautiful Oxtongue Lake, our fully-equipped beachfront cottages evoke simpler days while offering all the modern conveniences.
We offer limited FREE WI-FI accessible in your cottage, on the dock, or anywhere on the property. We also provide the use of our canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats. We know pets are family, so dogs are always welcome (for other types of pets, please ask upon booking).
A little about the owners:
We are the McGuires. Jenny, the owner, with sons Colin and Jason. Jason & I live here year-round and Colin, who lives in Toronto, visits when he can, to help. I am originally from Toronto, but left in 1979 to move to Renfrew. My husband worked for the Royal Bank (as did I) and was transferred periodically. Colin was born in Renfrew and 19 months later Jason was born in Belleville. We have also lived in Ottawa, Norwood and Acton, before landing in Sudbury, which was my husband’s home town.
We purchased the resort in the spring of 2012 and moved here from Sudbury. We had spent over 20 years in Sudbury and in 2004 lost Mike, my husband and the kids’ father, to a malignant brain tumour (cancer stinks!!). Over the next few years we were all at loose ends and looking for something new—and here we are.
I was originally looking for a small house on water to semi-retire and up popped a business opportunity and the kids thought it was a great idea. As a child I had spent time in the Huntsville area and when my parents retired they bought a small house on a small lake just north of Huntsville. I have always loved this area—and the kids love it too—although Jason more so than Colin, who is my city boy. 🙂
We do love this area, are settling into the business and our intention is to be here a long time. In the 2 ½ years we have been here we have met many terrific people, both local and guests that have come to stay with us.
If you have any questions, for the most part we are an open book so please do not hesitate to ask.
